For 2001, Suzuki introduced the third generation of Gsxr 600 k1 .
Based, again, on the Gsxr 750, this time it shared all bodywork components so that they were essentially the same size. However, extensive weight-saving measures in the engine and frame (strategically thinnergauge aluminum in the frame, for example) helped make the Gsxr 600 usefully lighter than the Gsxr 750.
It was also the first 600 cc machine to achieve the landmark output of 100 hp at the rear wheel.
